You guys, I did it! I started my own website. This is all me - my own words, my own vision, my own freaking website! What?!
Let me back up a bit. I've had a blog for awhile - like almost 10 years (although the posts I actually published were super infrequent these last few years). I started my blog as a way to document my married life. I wrote about a variety of topics but mostly about marriage and parenthood. Looking back, I am SO glad I started writing - I would never have remembered all the details without it.
A few years in I realized that blogging could be so much more than just a personal diary. Blogging is a way to reach other people, to connect with them, to create a community among people you may not even know. I found myself drawn to blogs with their own websites where the author was providing a broader range of content. I wanted to do that too!
I took baby steps to grow my blog by sharing it with more than just select friends and family. I let my guards down a bit and started posting on Facebook. The problem was I didn't have time to devote to creating content. I wanted to. I wanted to move from Blogger and have my own little piece of the internet. I wanted it all. But life with young children and babies won and I decided to put blogging on hold.
By the fall of 2017 I started feeling hard pulls for a change. Chelsea was in kindergarten, Brooke started full time preschool, and baby Addy was starting to walk. I was coming out of the woods after 6 long years of having babies and being pregnant. It was finally time to make some changes. Before getting back to blogging I had A LOT of catch up to do. Half finished house projects, baby books with no pictures, canceled family trips, and on... I cut back my hours at work and started pulling things together.
During 2018 I made a lot of progress. It didn't feel like I accomplished much, but now I can see that I was paving the road for today. By December I was ready so I took the plunge and bought myself a website. Then things got hard! I had no clue how to build a website and what I thought I could do in a month was taking MUCH longer. After I came to terms with doing things slower it got easier. And now I am here - blogging from my own space!
My goal for this blog is to go beyond family updates to share all the things I love. Baking, crafting, home projects, vacations, fitness, fashion and so much more. I absolutely love talking about my kids and husband and will continue to post about them, but I am so much more than just a wife and mother and want to bring more of that here.
Welcome to the new blog. All about life with me and my crew. Living with the Longs. I am SO excited to finally be writing these words. Ahh! I sincerely hope you join me on this journey and find a bit of community here with me.
